Anwar Khan zamindar of Baniachang, a territory comprising an area now included in Habiganj district. As described in the Baharistan, he was the chief of the zamindars, and was in no way less powerful than musa khan Masnad-i-Ala.

At the advent of the Mughals, Anwar Khan at first made a show of submission, but soon organised a conspiracy against the Mughals. He along with his brothers voluntarily surrendered to islam khan at Dhaka (1611) and promised him active support against Khwaja Usman by launching an attack on Usman's partisans in Sylhet. Islam Khan permitted him to hold his territory in fief and to carry out his promised attack. But on his way back, Anwar entered into a secret plot with Mahmud Khan, brother of Musa Khan, and bahadur ghazi of Bhawal, who were in the imperial camp at Hasanpur. They conspired to make a combined attack in alliance with usman khan on the forces at Hasanpur, take captive the leading mansabdars and then to imprison Islam Khan at Dhaka. The conspiracy attained little success. Out of a number of invitees at a banquet Anwar could entrap only two officers with whom he fled to Baniachang. Islam Khan sent Raja Satrajit, vassal zamindar of Bhusana, and afterwards Mubariz Khan to subdue Anwar. Anwar Khan fought hard, but was ultimately compelled to surrender to Islam Khan, who put him in chains. [Muazzam Hussain Khan]
