Khizrpur a medieval town presumably founded by isa
khan. Now ruined, it was situated at a site about a mile north
of the present Narayanganj town at the confluence of the Dulai (Buriganga)
with the Lakhya. A strongly fortified city commanding the only water route
to Dhaka from this side, it was a strong military base under musa
khan and the then chief naval port of East Bengal from where
all the great naval expeditions set out. The implication of the name 'Khizrpur
Qila'h' to the hajiganj
fort built by mir
jumla in the seventeenth century indicates that the city of
Khizrpur was within close vicinity of the present Hajiganj locality of
Narayanganj. Under the Mughal sarker Bazuha Khizrpur was a pargana of
which it was the centre. [Muazzam Hussain Khan] |
